And, as mentioned in this audio post, I have made available the article, "Masters and commanders: Why the assn profession needs a master's degree program" that was published in the March 5, 2004 issue of Association Trends as a PDF on my website. Thanks to my colleagues at Trends for publishing the article and for allowing me to make it accessible.

Linda:
Wow, what a great project! I think it is a very important contribution to the community and I hope that you will keep us updated on your progress.
Thanks for posting it!

Jeff,
FSAE has entered into a partnership relationship with the Tallahassee Community College to develop programs of interest to associations of all types as well as to students who should/could/would become the future employees/interns of associations. These programs will be, hopefully, offered by the community college network around the state --- and then ultimately beyond the state. The goal of TCC is to create an Associates Degree program in this area -- and we have also had interest from Florida State University about a possible partnership with them to develop certificate courses that could ultimately become eligible for credit from them. It is an interesting and time-consuming journey to get these projects going.

Linda:
Thanks for your thoughts as well. I couldn't agree with you more. Community colleges are hotbeds of innovation and I'd love to see some unique association management programs from them Isn't FSAE doing something like that with a local community college?

Jeff, Thanks for the comments and insights into a Master’s Degree in Association Management (more of a Master’s Degree in association leadership.) I also believe that there should be an Associate’s Degree in Association Management as the beginning step in this process. Most association execs got into the field by accident, and I want to foster a way for the profession to be viewed as a wonderful opportunity for students entering the workforce.
