It has been brought to my attention that the link to the Trends article regarding the Insight Award recipients I posted below may not work for everyone exactly as planned. So, I thought I would post the text of the article here:
ACC, TMA honored for innovative programs
Projects receive second Insight Award
Two projects have been named recipients of the 2004 Insight Award for Innovation in Assns. The Insight Award, which recognizes ideas with real impact on the real work of associations, is sponsored by Association TRENDS and Principled Innovation, Arlington VA, an assn community consultancy. Both organizations will have their award-winning work featured in future issues of Association TRENDS.
American College of Cardiology, Bethesda MD, was recognized for its National Cardiovascular Data Registry, or ACC-NCDR. The registry is a scientific- and evidence-based standardized tool that cardiac catheterization laboratories nationwide can use to measure the quality of care being delivered to patients who receiving certain kinds of diagnostic and other interventions.
Since its inception in 1998, the ACC-NCDR has grown to include more than 2-million patient discharges and more than 500 participating hospitals. During this time, the registry has become the “gold standard” of measuring cardiovascular outcomes in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
Texas Medical Assn, Austin, worked with its county medical societies to implement an integrated system for assn management, reporting tools and executive information that provides access to these tools to the county medical societies. Among the goals of this effort were the improvement of service to members and providing assn staff with better tools for managing daily work activities. TMA is the only state medical society to put in place this kind of technology architecture and, for the first time in the 150-year history of organized medicine in Texas, TMA and its county medical assns are able to share information on a real-time basis.
The Insight Award was presented for the first time last year, and will entertain nominations again in 2005.
Details: Jeff De Cagna, Principled Innovation.
