Association Forum launches podcast

I'm pleased to say that Association Forum of Chicagoland has joined me and is now producing a podcast for the association community.  The podcast, hosted by Forum CEO Gary LaBranche, will be weekly and is part of a project that has three goals:

  1. Demonstrate podcasting as an association product or service;
  2. Share lessons learned and knowledge gained on podcasting with the association community;
  3. Provide greater access to association management knowledge and information.

I urge you to listen to Gary's first effort and to support the podcast in the weeks and months ahead.  Podcasting is a powerful tool for associations, and I'm pleased to see that it is beginning to enter into our community's awareness.

By the way, the article from the July 2005 FORUM that Gary mentions was authored by yours truly and it can be found here

One final BlogJam post

I made my final post to the FC NOW BlogJam just a few minutes ago.  In it, I reiterate my hope that FC will launch a podcast, which I have suggested they call FC NEXT.  Whether they call it that or not, I just hope they'll run with the idea.  If you agree, please go to my post, and share your thoughts of support!

My For Immediate Release Interview

On Friday, I was interviewed by Shel Holtz and Neville Hobson of the For Immediate Release podcast.  The interview is now available for download, and I hope you'll take some time to check it out.  (It is 55 minutes in length.)

For those of you who listen to my podcast, Associations Unorthodox, you know that I met Shel at the International Association of Business Communicators conference in DC in late June.  Shel introduced himself as "a big fan" of my podcast, which was a truly thrilling thing to hear, because until that point I wasn't sure whether anyone other than my friends were listening.  It was a very exciting moment for me, and I was even more excited by Shel's interview invitation.  I hope I didn't disappoint him and I hope you'll enjoy the conversation!  I look forward to your feedback and pushback...

FC NOW BlogJam 2005 Post #1

I've made my first post to the FC NOW BlogJam 2005, which began this morning.  I actually put it up a few minutes before midnight (because I'm a geek and I wanted to be the first one to post), and I thought I had blown it because my attempt to change the date and time initially failed, but I went back and corrected it and all is well.  Phew!  ;>)

In this first post, I made a small proposal:  that Fast Company launch a podcast called FC NEXT.  Now that FC's ownership situation is more settled, I think this would be a great step for the publication to take.  (In addition, I think they should bring back their RealTime conferences, but that is a story for another day.)  I would love an FC podcast, and I am confident that I would not be alone.  The readership of this magazine is deeply devoted to it, so the podcast would have an interested audience from day one.  At any rate, we'll see what kind of reaction I get to the idea.

BTW, association executive and fellow blogger Shawn Lea of The Big Picture is also participating in the BlogJam and will be posting for the next two days.  I look forward to sharing in her brilliance and that of all BlogJam participants.  I suggest you join us!

New podcast on Associations Unorthodox

Just a quick note to let everyone know that there is a new podcast posted to Associations Unorthodox, the first podcast I've done in a month.  I'll be podcasting again later in the week.  Please check it out!

Online article about podcasting for associations

This month's online edition of ASAE's Association Management magazine includes an article on podcasting in which I am extensively quoted.  As the association community's podcasting pioneer--a new completely immodest, self-referential superlative that I just created (whadda ya think?)--I'm very proud to have been included in the article.  I'm grateful to Jesse Alter, who was with AM at the time, for the fine job he did with this piece.  I hope you'll check it out!

An update on my adventures in podcasting

Just a few updates on my current podcasting activities in which you might be interested:

+I am now serving as a volunteer contributor to Corante's blog on podcastingCorante has various blogs covering technology, science and business, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to share my non-techie perspective on podcasting.  I have made a couple of posts in the last week and I will be posting more often going forward.  Please check it out to learn more about both podcasting practice and business.

+I am writing an article on podcasting for FORUM, the magazine of Association Forum of Chicagoland, that will appear in the publication's July issue.  I will explain what podcasting is, how simple and inexpensive it is to do and why it is a fantastic new tool for associations to use.

+Tomorrow, I am flying to California to attend the Google shareholders meeting, which is on Thursday.  I'm very excited about this opportunity to learn more about a company I've been studying for awhile now, and I will be doing an Associations Unorthodox podcast this weekend to share some of my impressions.  I hope you'll check it out!

BTW, if you're a subscriber to The Association Innovation Blog, I hope you will consider subscribing to updates for the podcast.  You will only receive an e-mail on the podcast once a week, since my show is weekly, typically on Saturday or Sunday.  You can subscribe right on the Associations Unorthodox website!

My adventures in podcasting are great fun for me and I hope you enjoy them as well!  Please share your feedback!

New podcast on strategic planning at Associations Unorthodox

Just a quick note to TAIB readers that I have posted a new podcast on "the death of strategic planning" over at Associations Unorthodox.  This will be the first in an occasional series of podcasts around the shortcomings of strategic planning, as well as alternatives to it, that I will be recording in the months ahead.  I hope you'll check it out, and do let me know what you think!

Another podcast at Associations Unorthodox

An update to TAIB readers...I have posted my latest podcast at Associations Unorthodox.  We're coming to the end of our discussion of The Future of Work by Tom Malone.  I hope you'll listen to my thoughts on the application of markets to associations, a subject I blogged on briefly during the Top 5 issues of 2005 posts toward the end of last year.  I have two more podcasts on the book to post, including an interview that Amy Smith and I did with Professor Tom Malone for our Internet radio show, Association Foresight.  The interview will be up tomorrow!

Coming up on March 18, some very cool stuff at Associations Unorthodox.  Join me then and listen carefully!

No Associations Unorthodox podcast today

As I continue to try and build an audience for my podcasts on Associations Unorthodox, I like to keep TAIB readers aware of what is going on with that blog.  I have adopted an every-Friday recording schedule, but today I am still recovering from a bad cold and I have decided to postpone recording another podcast until Monday.

I hope that TAIB readers will jump over to Associations Unorthodox and subscribe for updates.  (By the way, if you're already a TAIB subscriber, putting yourself on the Associations Unorthodox subscriber list won't mean another e-mail.  You'll still only get one message for any and all posts I make to either blog on the same day.)

At the moment, I am talking about the book, The Future of Work, by MIT professor Thomas W. Malone on the Associations Unorthodox blog.  In my next podcast, I will discuss Chapter 5 of the book, "Harnessing Democracy."  You can post your comments on any part of the book either in text or through the new audio comment line.  I hope you'll join the conversation!
